One of the most innovative inventions of human civilization is so called “novel”. It basically encourages us to tell lies under the euphemism of “imagination” and rewards us if we do it right. There are several categories to make it right, but the most important category is the degree of how entertaining it is.
I read half of this book around 15 years ago through jailbreaked ebook in my IPAD2. When I accidentally updated the IOS, all jailbreaked ebooks were gone. As time passed, my IPAD2 became obsolete and my half-read book entered into oblivion.
When I found the book at the local bookstore last year, my dormant curiosity awakend, so I bought it. But I have to read it from the cover page..
It is hard to imagine people lived almost 300 years ago could tell such absolutely stunning lies. In such harsh and brutal era.. The bizzare and satirical lies of Jonathan Swift were indeed entertaining. So, the book’s influence had created far reaching impacts until now. We hear words like Lilliput, Brobdingnag and Laputa very often still.
I didn’t know that my email Yahoo came from this book. I still use Yahoo email since 1994 as a backup account for receiving spam emails. What a shame..
I should have known earlier that telling a lie is such a rewarding activity in our society. If I did, I might have been a super rich and famous by now as I am kinda good at it 🙂
